A Moody Mountain Wedding at Old Edwards, Featured by The Knot
Aly and George’s Old Edwards wedding was a deeply personal celebration filled with thoughtful design, meaningful details, and a warm mountain guest experience.
Some weddings are memorable because every choice feels unmistakably connected to the couple. Aly and George’s celebration at Old Edwards in Highlands, North Carolina, was one of those weddings.
Originally planned and designed during the Eventfully Chic by Parris chapter of our company, this celebration remains an important part of the portfolio and experience that shaped Balazs Events.
We are honored that it was selected for publication by The Knot.
A Celebration Rooted in Their Story
Aly and George first met in a college chemistry lab. Their relationship later carried them through six years of long distance before they were finally able to build a life together in South Carolina.
Their wedding reflected that history through details that were personal, unexpected, and thoughtfully woven throughout the celebration. Their shared love of books became part of the design, while references to motorcycles added another layer of personality.
Nothing felt included simply for appearance. Each element had a connection to who they are and the life they have created together.
A Moody, Woodland Inspired Design at Old Edwards
The couple envisioned a celebration that felt like entering an enchanted forest, with a sense of depth, romance, and discovery.
A palette of black, dark green, creamy white, and warm gold created the foundation for the design. Greenery, white florals, natural textures, and abundant candlelight brought warmth to the darker tones, while custom moss and fern details connected the celebration to its mountain setting.
The ceremony space felt intimate and atmospheric without competing with the natural beauty of Highlands. Each design decision supported the surroundings while still giving the wedding its own distinct identity.
Aly wore an off white gown featuring intricate leaf embroidery and a coordinating veil. The botanical details felt beautifully connected to the setting and overall design.
George wore a forest green three piece suit with a gold tie, carrying the color story into his attire in a way that felt intentional and personal.
A Reception Filled with Meaningful Details
Inside The Farm at Old Edwards, the timber architecture and stone fireplace created a natural backdrop for the reception.
Suspended greenery drew attention upward and filled the room with movement, while candlelight and deep tones made the space feel warm and inviting. Fern stamped place cards referenced one of Aly’s tattoos, creating a subtle detail with personal significance.
Books with black and green covers were incorporated throughout the tables and ceremony aisle. Guests were invited to take them home at the end of the evening, allowing part of the design to become a meaningful favor.
A second favor referenced George’s love of motorcycles. Guests received keychains featuring a 10 millimeter socket, a playful inside joke that added humor and personality to the experience.
These details did more than complete the room. They gave guests opportunities to learn more about the couple and understand the stories behind the celebration.
A Guest Experience Worth Remembering
From the emotional first look to the couple’s departure in a classic Model A Ford, the wedding unfolded with moments that felt connected and unhurried.
Guests enjoyed a Southern inspired dinner followed by a late night serving of fried chicken and waffles with bourbon maple syrup. It was a comforting and memorable finish to an evening centered on hospitality, storytelling, and time spent together.
We are grateful to Aly and George for trusting us to translate their story into an experience their guests could see, feel, and enjoy. We are also thankful for the creative partners whose work brought each layer of the celebration together.

A Note About The Farm at Old Edwards
In August 2026, a fire caused significant damage to the Pavilion at The Farm at Old Edwards. We are deeply grateful that no guests or team members were injured, and our thoughts remain with the Old Edwards team, the couples affected, and the Highlands community as they move forward.
This wedding took place before the fire, and we share it with gratitude for the memories created within this beloved space and for every person who helped bring Aly and George’s celebration to life.
